This division award is presented each year at the annual meeting in recognition of outstanding contributions to the solution of fundamental problems in planetary geology, which includes geochemistry, mineralogy, petrology, geophysics, geologic mapping, and remote sensing. The award is named for G. K. Gilbert, who 100 years ago clearly recognized the importance of a planetary perspective in solving terrestrial geologic problems.

As Principal Scientist at the Lunar and Planetary Institute,  Allan is richly deserving of this award not only for his extensive body of work on the geologic history and volatile content of a wide variety of planetary materials, but also for the breadth of his many research collaborations that have reached across the US and around the world.

Dr. Treiman will receive the award at the Society’s Annual Meeting in Denver in October 2022.
