Update On Arecibo--September 29, 2017

Universities Space Research Association continues to assess damage to Arecibo Observatory as a result of Hurricane Maria. Inspections continue, but preliminary reports indicate that there appears to be no major structural damage to the 300-meter telescope. Most buildings are intact or readily repairable. Earlier reports on the loss of the 12-meter phase reference telescope unfortunately were over stated; it is damaged, but appears to be intact. We are continuing to make contact with observatory staff as they are able to check in. Our thoughts are with the Puerto Rican people as they recover from the Hurricane.
